Here at the Bondi Markets, we pride ourselves on providing a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs and creative professionals to launch their ideas into the world. The open-minded yet discerning Bondi locals make for the perfect audience to test product designs and styles. We’ve seen plenty of our stallholders expand into fully-fledged, successful businesses, the most note-worthy of which we’ve included in this article.

Samantha Wills

Samantha Wills moved to Sydney at 21 years of age to set up a small stall at the Bondi Markets, where she started chasing her dreams of a career in jewellery making. Here she was able to test the popularity of her designs, and cultivate her signature style now taking the world by storm. Her self-titled brand is currently stocked in stores around the world, and even made an appearance on Carrie Bradshaw and her friends in the second blockbuster movie Sex and the City. Now a multi-million dollar label coveted by women the world over, Samantha Wills is more than deserving of being named a Bondi Markets success story.

Sass & Bide

Best friends Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke founded Sass & Bide in 1999 by selling denim pieces at both the Bondi Markets and Portobello Road in London. Within two years they created their very first collection, which rocketed them to success. Their designs were featured in New York and London fashion weeks before being worn by household names such as Kate Moss and Beyonce. This renowned Australian label has made its mark on the country’s women’s fashion scene, and is proof that humble beginnings can lead to incredible endings.

Lover

Another standout success in the Australian women’s fashion scene, Lover found its way at the Bondi Markets when creative director Nic Briand thought it would be the perfect place to launch a label. “Before we started, we designed the look and feel of the stall, to make sure it would complement the clothes and stand out amongst the crowd. We would pack up the car every Sunday morning with so much stuff, that I could barely fit in,” Briand recalls. “I will never forget the first weekend – it was out of control. It gave us a lot of confidence in the product. Looking back on it, we can see that it really set the foundation for how we run our business.” Lover’s elegant designs have now been gracing Australia’s shelves for over fifteen years.
